The forecast, derived partly from new responses to EBJ’s 2007 Snapshot Survey, is provided for major client sectors. This issue also includes the top 50 C&E firms ranked by environmental consulting and engineering, including total revenues and environmental contracting revenues not counted in C&E.
Overview: The U.S. environmental consulting & engineering industry had one of its best years in a decade in 2006. And although growth slowed marginally from 8% to 7.2% in 2006, it would have qualified for the best growth rate since 1990 if not for the 8.0% growth in 2005. However, despite a third consecutive year of relative prosperity, executives are somewhat more cautious about the prospects for sustained growth for 2007, with real estate markets, federal spending and the economy overall as principle factors of concern. Certain practice areas seem to be immune, but executives are advised to view markets cautiously when considering long-range plans.
